90 EZGo crank seal replacement
I'm new to this forum and this is my first post. I'm going to look at a 90 gas EZGO to buy. The owner says that the choke needs to be in half way to run smooth. I've read on the forum that the crank seal may need to be replaced. How difficult is that type of job?

Re: 90 EZGo crank seal replacement
Good news - the part is cheap. Bad news, you need to take the engine from the cart, and it is a bit of work. Of special note is the work needed to get the flywheel off (yikes!), and to get the clutch off (kind of finicky).
However, a choke issue could be crank seals, but sould be some other issue in the fuel system such as the carb, a bad line, or a diaphragm issue in the fuel pump. BTW, welcome here. |

Re: 90 EZGo crank seal replacement
Thanks for the Welcome.
I'm just wondering if I should take the risk that it is not the crank seals. The carb stuff is relatively easy. The owner wants $1200. Overal the cart looks pretty nice. Any opinions??? |

Re: 90 EZGo crank seal replacement
My opinion is that is a big price for a 21 year old cart that doesn't run right. As Scooter says you could fix it for $7 worth of seals (plus the cost of two pullers and several days of blood, sweat, tears, misery, squalor and degradation ). You may also need a new fuel pump, a carburetor and so on ad nausium.
If it were me and I had a budget of $1200 I would offer $750 and have $450 in the bank to make it work. How's that for $0.02? Dave |

Re: 90 EZGo crank seal replacement
That sounds like pretty good advice.
The seller doesn't seem to want to move any more on the price. He says it was in storage for a few years and ran without the choke before. I think I may pass on this one. Just too many variables for a first time cart owner. |

Re: 90 EZGo crank seal replacement
No way I'd pay that either.
Got my 92 for $200, though it did need a top end rebuild, and was cosmetically a little rough. Patience is a virtue when shopping for a cart, and I got mine through a WTB ad on Kijiji. craigslist probably works too. If I had a budget of $1,200, I could get into a mid-to-late 90's in 100% working condition gas cart around here. |

Dave is on the money with any problems you will spend at least $450-$500 To deep for the year. Do you really need it? How bad

Re: 90 EZGo crank seal replacement
Thanks for all the input guys.
I am taking your advice and I'm going to keep looking. I'll post pics of the cart I eventually get. |
