88 Marathon Flooding
Hey guys,
I have a '88 Marathon that I heavily modified 3 years ago. The modification included adding a stainless muffler off a 650cc Suzuki street bike. I know I was asking for backpressure trouble but to my surprise the cart ran like a top until recently. A month ago I could not get it to run at all. Checked compression and it's 120psi. Changed plug (more than once) and eventually bought a new carb. The bowl on the replacement carb was consierably larger than the original, but I verified that it was the right replacement per the website. It ran, but was running rough because of flooding. I adjusted the float to numerous different positions with little improvement. What is confusing to me is that after the carb bowl is full of fuel, the cart runs fantastic if I disconnect the fuel line at the tank - until of course there is no more fuel left in the bowl. What the heck? |

Re: 88 Marathon Flooding
Perhaps the needle valve is not closing tight. With the pressure of the fuel pump it is flooding but with no pressure it runs OK. Remove the float and the needle and clean the seat with a Q tip. Now reassemble and hold the float up to operate the valve and blow into the fuel intake to see if it seals.
