Re: 1991 ignition up grade
this is the one you should be using. do yourself a favor and go to radio shack or auto zone and get a few feet of each color you need to match. makes a lot easier to set up.

Re: 1991 ignition up grade
Also, when you mount the HEI module, make SURE (and I can't stress this enough) that you grind a bare spot on the frame or firewall (bare - to the metal - clean) a little larger than the size of the HEI module and bolt the module down securely, you want full contact of the rear of the HEI for grounding AND for heatsinking. Also, some (most) HEI modules have a small plastic "nipple" (actually an alignment tab) on the rear that prevents them from being mounted flat, make sure you nip that off flush with a pair of endcutters before mounting the module, and a little conductive thermal grease between the frame and module isn't the worst idea either, just to ensure it doesn't corrode up down the road.

Re: 1991 ignition up grade
you say one wire runs to the ignitor. do you mean the hei module? post a pic of the hei module and how it is wired. also in the #4 pic, it looks like your blue and red pulsar wires are hooked uo wrong. they should run directly from the engine to the hei module. have you double ckecked your wiring against the diagram? your old ignitor is nowhere in the circuit.

Re: 1991 ignition up grade
pulled old ignitor out installed hei/accell in the old place right below voltage regulator. hooked up red and blue to pulsar. yellow/red goes to d+ on regulator and from there the red goes to d on the selonoid? but they jumped the green from the coil into it the red wire running to the selonoid. orange is to c connection on hei. my concern would be the wire pictured in the diagram from the d+ is seprate and goes to the b side of selonoid . i have spark but its weak. again thanks to all of you madoc and brew city music you two all ways help everyone.

Re: 1991 ignition up grade
try reversing the 2 wires from the pulsar - occasionally the HEI mod's are finiocky to the polarity of signal coming from the pulsar, I know my conversion ran for SH*T with an incredibly weak spark until I reversed those wires, since then it's been great!

Re: 1991 ignition up grade
Here's one way to look at it, electricity doesn't care what colors are on a wires jacket (and neither obviously did the person who rewired your cart at one time, by the sounds of it). Just make sure you are wired point-to-point per the diagram and you should be fine.
If there are any different wiring mods going on with your cart, I would personally swap them back to fit the factory diagram above - if the cart started out with electrical issues before you did the HEI (which it obviously did) then restoring ALL the wiring per the diagram is not only going to be best for your HEI, but may well also fix the preexisting problem, follow me? |
