Parts List for Tune up and Other Odds and Ends
I need a parts list for a tune up. I can get a fuel filter. But every where I went they gave me the hairy eye when I showed them the air filter. I'm not even sure if I have an oil filter.
I'm getting ready to do a lift job so I am going to replace all the fuel lines. The one from the gas tank and filter gets a little tight before it gets to the pump. Not even sure if I want to put it back that way. I might drill a hole and use a grommet. The drive belt looks to be fairly new. But I can almost "pinch" the belt together in the middle. A little loose maybe?? The cart tops out with half a peddle to go? Then it surges as it goes over the little hills (12") on the road. How can I ID my engine size? Mark |

295cc most likely... Check compression.. If low go to the valves for adjustment.

Now this I might be able to do. And I even have the compression gauge :)

Re: Parts List for Tune up and Other Odds and Ends
the valves are easy to set, too - I helped a buddy do it on his 93 GXT and it took all of about 40 minutes ... And that surging and early top-out is indicative of an incorrectly set throttle cable (you want the microswitch/solenoid to *just* click and engage before the throttle opens, sounds like you're opening up the throttle a ways prior to firing, I'd be willing to bet you can't hold it at idle, right?)

Hummm and that's the only thing I have messed with :) That and the Governor spring. It was originally set to give you whiplash as soon as you touched the pedal.

Re: Parts List for Tune up and Other Odds and Ends
the easiest starting point to set the throttle is to loosen the cable and (oh just to be safe, jack it up and pull the plug wires so it dosn't accidently run over you if anything goes weird) engage the pedal with the key on *slowly* until it just clicks and engages the starter, then tighten the cable right there, so that any further travel starts to open the throttle itself. You may have to do a tiny bit of tweaking, but that procedure works pretty well

Re: Parts List for Tune up and Other Odds and Ends
I must live dangerously. I put the brake on and found "neutral". Then I set the throttle so the switch clicks, engine starts, and then just a millimeter later, the motor revs. Well actually I bumped it out of reverser on that last step. Other than scaring the crap out of me, I found that the brakes are good.
I can almost pinch the drive belt together. Lacks less than an inch. Is this normal? The belt looks new. Mark |

Re: Parts List for Tune up and Other Odds and Ends
Compression was 132 and 146 Is this considered acceptable? The spread looks a little far.
Both plugs were a nice tan color. But there was maybe oil or fuel mixture around the threads. But not on the engine top. And the plugs were really tight. Who ever put them in didn't know what they were doing. I wounder if the compression washer is any good now? Auto-lite 275 Mark |
