how to check for spark
1998 MG4 TXT. New battery. Turns over but does not start. I would like to check for spark. How do I go about this? Thanks

Re: how to check for spark
First take your shoes off and get your feet wet, then grab the plug wire with.....nevermind.
Either remove one of the plugs or get a new one and install it in the plug boot, lay it on a bare metal surface and spin the motor over. You should see a spark. |

I like Crash's idea.
Seriously, the electrode just needs to be touched to a piece of grounded metal. You see spark, you got spark. |

With the ignition system on these carts. I would think you would have to make darn sure the plug is grounded. Not just laying on bare metal, but pressed to bare metal.

Re: how to check for spark
Thanks for the input on checking for spark. I did as you said and laid the booted plug on the manifold and turned the engine over. I do indeed have spark.
The plugs are new. When I pulled one out to test, I noticed it was wet and black. I was able to wipe it clean. I started a new thread on getting this thing started. Thanks Paul |
