Rebuild in my future?
We pulled the ski boat out of the lake today. Later rode the cart back over to the lake to do a little fishing with my Brother who was in town. Funny thing happened on the way home. The motor started bogging down and loosing power, till it died. It wouldn't even turn over. About two minutes later, it started right up again and off we went. About another 500 yards down the road, the same thing, bogged down and died. Pressed the gas, and nothing. We were a block from the house, so we pushed it the rest of the way. After cooling off for a few minutes, it starts up again. I think the engine is/was over heating and early signs of locking up. Anyone experience this?

Yea, I forgot that the avatar picture alone wasn't enough info. '87 two stroke. And yes, I should have heeded everyone's warning and just pre-mixed. I'm guessing the oil injection has finally quit working. You know, it's only 24 years old.

Yep I would do a compression test and remove the pump before trying to start it again. You may get lucky and try to limp it along if you first mix the gas at 40:1 or 3oz.per gallon for a tank just to give it some extra lube and then 128:1 after that don't run it to hard for first tank give it a break untill you see what you've got.

Re: Rebuild in my future?
racin161 - That's exactly what I did. I estimated the amount of fuel in the tank, and then added some oil. I drove it around for a while and it ran just like always. I'll be easy on it for a while and see what happens. Thanks -nomo

Re: Rebuild in my future?
Great news you may have saved it be genital with the old girl. I premix my fuel in a 5 gallon jug with 5 oz of oil so it's a know mix. I always have to keep some on hand as my granddaughter seems to leave me stranded LOL GOOD LUCK
