91 Marathon question
ok, i got a 91 marathon i just got from a guy who hasnt ran it it in 3 years since his son hit something and bent the front axel. I got it up on jack stands to put a lift on it and paint it. I got it running good. My question is while its running, the clutch is spinning like crazy, but the tires are moving slow? Why would this be?

Re: 91 Marathon question
Possibly because you have a stripped hub. When it is on the ground does it move at all? If not have a look at the center nut, if it is spinning and the wheel is not you have found the problem.

Re: 91 Marathon question
Could also be belt slippage if the belt is old or worn out.
Just on the off chance, by running good, you mean the engine is revving well (sounds like a chiansaw or similiar high revving 2-stroke), and clutch is sliding tight on to the belt? I know others have said their cart is running good in the past when it really was just turning over trying to fire. If it's not really running, it never puts enough RPMs together to close the clutch. |

Re: 91 Marathon question
yes. rpm get really high. belt turns clutch really fast. Sounds like the chainsaw. ill double check the belt tonight, but from what i can remember, it didnt look like it was slipping.

Re: 91 Marathon question
put it up on jack stands and watch the clutches. they should both move in and out. sounds crazy, but have heard of cases where the bolt that secures the driven clutch was loose, allowing to spin on the input shaft.

Re: 91 Marathon question
Is the clutch closing well at high revs to grab the belt and turn the axle? Could also be a stuck clutch. Also, we had another member on here who had their clutch bolt come loose on them. If it's not tight, there's no key to keep the clutch from slipping on the crank under load.

Re: 91 Marathon question
thats what i am going to check tonight. Belt is spinning like crazy. Thats the only thing i havent checked. i figured if i hold one side of the hub, if one hub was stripped, id be able to turn the other, but i cant.

Re: 91 Marathon question
ok, now im stumpped. nut is tight, hubs are tight, belt not slipping. Could it be the governor? i put the wheels on it and can drive it around, but it only does like 2 mph. its a constant speed, cant feel anything slipping or catching in any way. HELP... Thanks
