Default Clutch bolt size 83 EZGO gas cart

Hi,

This is my first post to the forum. Yesterday we picked up an EZGO 1983 gas golf cart. It has a number of minor problems the first of which is the clutch bolt is missing and the clutch assembly is loose. What are the specifications for the bolt? It looks like it should be about 6 to 7 inches long and about 3/8 to 7/16 inch in diameter.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

Brad

here is a pic of the bolt from my 81 ezgo.. 5 1/2" inches long and it looks to be a 1/2" fine thread...

plus there is this funky washer on the outside...

and here the dimensions for the homemade clutch puller...

Finally got the bolt. It turned out to be 7/16 x 20 - 5-1/2" long.

Now the problem I'm having is trying to tighten the bolt enough to keep it from backing out when going into forward (at least I think it was forward when it came out!).

What torque should the bolt be torqued to and how do you keep the clutch from turning while tightening the bolt with the engine still in the cart?

Thanks!

I know this is an old thread. Just went through this though. Specs call for tightening the clutch bolt to 40-44 ft. lbs (54-60 Nm.) The original (factory) bolt is 6" long (7/16" x 20 x 6".) There also should be a lock washer between the bolt head and the pilot (flat) washer.

FYI.

The large washer with the cuts or notches in it.... That's actually a part of the rear motor mount system that somebody has used as a washer
