Default 88 E Z GO won't always start

Hello all,

I am new to the forum and wanted to ask a question about my 88 EZGO. Lately it has been more and more difficult to start. When the pedal is pressed I can hear a click but the motor won't turn over. I have to keep moving the pedal to get it to turn over. It actually is less difficult to start in reverse than in forward. Is this the solenoid, micro switch....?

Thanks for any help!!

First off, WELCOME TO BGW!

Sounds like a weak battery to me. Jack the rear end off the ground and put it on blocks so the rear tires are off the ground. Hook a voltmeter to your battery terminals and hit the gas pedal with the keyswitch ON. Watch the voltage from sitting with no draw to when you press the pedal. If it drops a considerable amount, charge the battery.

If charging helps and the engine now turns over and starts (while still on blocks), revv the engine to about 1/4 throttle and watch the voltmeter. It should read to about 14 volts while running. This verifies that your charging system is working correctly.

Let us know what you find.

I have an 88 gasser that i just did get running. i did notice when the mot/gen got hot that it took a little more to get it to fire and turn ovr. i agree with the weak battery diagnosis.

another check - jumper cables to your car/truck. i dont even have a battery yet, this is how i have been working on mine.
