Help old 3 wheeled gas cart will not move.
Hello,
I am new to this forum. From what I have read so far on here it looks like it can be very useful so I thought I would make my first post with some help and questions I thought may you guys here could help me with. I recently purchased a used 3 wheeled ez-gas cart. I think from what I can tell it is a 1976 model, but I'm not 100% sure. The serial number I came up with is: Serial# 760518 TTT27T. Am I correct on the year? any other useful info on this would be very helpful as well since I am new to the whole golf cart thing. I have a problem with this cart. When I bought it, it ran and drove fine. It has sat for about a week or so with out being used. I got on it today and backed up and went forward ok. I drove it about 100 yard and parked it. It sat for about 20 minutes and I then tried to back up and it started up but would not move forward or backwards. The belt just spins and the cluth on the motor side never moves to tighen up belt. It does changed directions from forward to reverse ( motor turns one way then the other). There is a plastic round cover on the front of the rearend pumkin that has a cable and a lever that moves with the throttle cable and the lever touches this plastic cover on the front of the rearend. The only thing I notice is this cable that goes to this lever that touches the platic cover looks like it has broke off from where is was attached to the carb throttle linkage arm. I did pull on this cable and the belt never gets tigh at all and the cart never moves. What is this cable and linkage for what does it do? I am totally new to the golf cart thing and don't know alot about them. I got this cart for my parent to use around their trailer court and now this cart that appeared to be ok does not move at all. Could you please help me with this or point me in the correct parts to get or what is may wong some or any help would be greatly appreciated. |

The cable is the governor cable and has no effect on the cart moving. You could remove it but you should watch your RPM's Sounds like your engine clutch stuck for some reason!! Dirt/rust ? try taking a soft mallet and tapping it in several places then start the cart and see if it cures the problem. This has been reported before. Other than that the spring inside of the clutch my have broke.

I agree. Sounds like a primary clutch problem. They do get dirty over the years so a good disassembly and clean and lube might be in order. While its apart look for broken parts and rebuild. Sounds like it runs good enough to invest in a little work. Do a search on this forum for pics on the clutch removal. Good luck.
