Is 9 hp motor strong enough for 6 passenger in mtns?
Considering purchase of a 5-7 year old EZGO gas, 6 passenger with 9hp motor. Motor is rebuilt but not sure about the clutch (and not sure if 28 or 36 degree) yet.
This will be used for transporting family up and down dirt roads in mountains with fairly steep grades (passable by cars). Already lifted with good tires and heavy duty springs. Will this have enough pull power? |

My take on this is this; The 9 hp motor is stock in a 2 passenger golf cart designed to negotiate the gently rolling groomed hills of a country club with 2 passengers.... You are asking if you triple the load and double the incline it must climb will it be okay... I think not. The original 9hp motor was not overpowered to this degree in my opinion

I agree with Scotty ...plus..... as it has been lifted I assume it has bigger tires and those bigger tires are already over gearing your engine.
I would suggest the least you should expect to work with is a 16 hp Vanguard or similar. Expect to drop another $2k + to make that dog bark. Dave Last edited by Dave Box; 12-09-2011 at 08:53 AM.. Reason: typo |

Re: Is 9 hp motor strong enough for 6 passenger in mtns?
I've got a stock 98 TXT and have driven it up some mountain like inclines. It's a great little machine, but its just about all it can do to climb them with two 300 lb guys in it. That's with stock 18 inch tires on it. Once it gets up it tends to lock up the brakes and slide when coming back down. I would have to say uh, No. In my opinion it'll needs at least 3 times more power and front discs if you plan on climbing and decending seriously hilly roads.
Just my opinion. |
