Help me help my buddy with his EZGO
My neighbor just bought an as-is EZGO from another neighbor and it appears the engine is junk. One cylinder has no compression and the other has very little. Looks like the cylinders are full of dirt and gunk. So, for starters, we'd like to know what we have here and if a rebuild is a good way to go. I snapped some pix of the mfg plate and the plate on the motor. Can someone tell me what we have and get me on the right path to finding the right fix?

Re: Help me help my buddy with his EZGO
Looks like you have a 2003 model year with a 295 9 horse engine. do both pistons move? No comp. probably means it was ran out of oil and broke the connecting rod. But it could possibly just need the valves adjusted. this is a common problem with ezgos. i hope you got a good deal on it let us know what you find.

Re: Help me help my buddy with his EZGO
We had a friend come over and check it out. He is knowledgeable about engines in general but not golf carts. He said the pistons do move but said no compression in one cylinder and very little in the other. We found a clamp broken off one side of the airbox and it was half open. There was a lot of grit in the cylinder with no compression. We are thinking it was ridden a lot with dirt just sucking into the airbox and into the motor.

I would try adjusting the valves just to see what happens.

Re: Help me help my buddy with his EZGO
So, the cart is an 03. I thought so but wanted to be sure. Any chance the motor is 2002? It mentions 2002 cali emissions on it and just want to be sure. When I search for rebuild kits for ezgo gas engines, it appears there is a cutoff between 2002 and 2003. Any information on how to find the correct engine rebuild kit would be helpful. I think my buddy is just going to get his friend to tear it down and do a rebuild on it. Or, is a used motor an option?

Re: Help me help my buddy with his EZGO
You need to call E-Z-GO to find out the year model on the cart. They also have the parts you need to rebuild. You will need two kits... (1) Kit #608902 Engine Rebuild "Gasket" Kit..Cost $75.19. This kit is for E-Z-GO 4 cycle Pre-MCI engines manufactured before Nov. 2003.
(2) Kit #750278PKG Pre-MCI Engine Rebuild Kit. Cost $920.72. This kit contains all the parts for engine with outsized pistons. Here is their website to get all the kits. In their search window type 295cc engine kits. Also, on the website they have. "What year is my vehicle?" http://www.shopezgo.com/index.aspx?t...FXO-tgodyU6Tmg |
