Default Clutch issue.

When i try to start my ez go 2001 golf cart, the starter turns, but the drive clutch doesn't. When I try to turn the drive clutch by hand, it doesnt rotate at all. Any ideas?

O.K.... Your tellin me the starter will turn and the drive clutch is not turning and you cant move the drive clutch by hand... This doesnt add up bro... The starter belt drives the drive clutch. The only way that could happen is if the starter belt was loose and it allowed the starter to turn inside the belt because of adjustment. If you can't turn the drive clutch by hand though, you have other issues. With correct belt adjustment the starter will be engaged by depressing the pedal which will in turn the drive clutch. Give me a little more info. based on my response and maybe i can help you more.

I hate to be the harbinger of bad news but the evidence you supply indicates that the engine has seized up and the starter belt is just slipping on the pulley.

There is also a long shot that the drive clutch has jammed shut you have applied the hill brake. This would give you the same symptom.

The clutch is stuck so bad that the starter belt is slipping. Id say that adds up to me. I'm guessing its seized, what are some reasons that happens? I've never really had any signs of the engine going bad on me.

Also, I can push the clutch in and out(open and closed right?), just cant turn it at all. Starter turns, I can move the driven clutch by hand, but the drive clutch is stuck...

If you havent had any signs of noise or any prior issues, I wouldn't think it is seized up. Not saying it isn't locked up, it just sounds odd. How long has it been since it ran? You could drain the oil and check that out. With the engine seized that bad you should see some evidence in the crankcase.

I know this sounds really juvenile but is the starter belt tight? If its loose it won't turn over anything.

The starter belt is a little loose, but not bad. Im going to take the engine out with a friend whos a mechanic and try to see whats going on this saturday. If its just locked up, how do you go about fixing that?
