Gas problem???
Good Morning, I am new to carting and have found this forum very informational. Hope I can get some help with what I think is a fuel issue. I purchased a 2004 EZ-GO TXT in Sept. It has a 295cc engine, 10” rims with mud tires and a lift kit. I will use it at motorcycle rally’s and when camping. The first weekend after purchasing the cart, I took it to a bike rally and it died. The fuel pump was not working. I was able to put a working pump together from 3 old pumps some friends had in old parts. Got the cart running but it started leaking fuel out the tubes from the carb. Found the needle valve and came out of the float ring. Got this corrected but still was not running well. It would run at low speed but not well at full throttle. I found I was getting some fuel blow back in the intake filter box. I ordered a new carb and fuel pump. Replaced these as well as all the fuel hoses, fuel filter, plugs and adjusted the valves (based on the manual and this forum) and checked the compression (150 to 160). The cart will crank and appears to run very well with no load but will only reach but about half speed when I drive it. I am still getting some fuel in the air box and the plugs are black with I pulled them. It is almost like it is flooding at full throttle. I did check the float setting on the new carb and the only adjustment screw is on the top of the carb at the engine flange (not sure what this does since the old carb didn’t have this). The oil level is still on the mark. Since I have the cart down to frame, wheels and engine to clean and paint, I would like to do work while everything is easy to access. Thanks for any help from out there.

Re: Gas problem???
Did you check the size of the old and new main jet? Check the pulse line to the fuel pump for gas. |

Re: Gas problem???
I agree with Dooms. Not to familiar with Ezgo, but if it is setup like most, it should have a line that helps pump/pulse fuel to the carb. If it is cracked, wrong size, etc... it will not pulse right. Make sure this cart has the proper fuel line sizes as well. On a Yamaha cart, this is a must.
And welcome to the forum. |

Re: Gas problem???
Thanks DOOmsman and spriddle for the reply. I replaced all the lines with the size removed but I will check the manual with what I installed to be sure. I didn't check the jet size on the carb but I did clean and rebuild the old carb so I will change it out to check. I will check the pulse line tomorrow when I change out the carb. It is new also but will see if I can verify the length.

Re: Gas problem???
Checked all fuel lines today and they are the correct dia and length. The pulse line to the fuel pump was also clean and the correct size and length. I also changed out the carb to the original that I had cleaned. Same problem, still getting a fuel mist in the intake. Cart cranks good and runs good at low speed. Any more ideas?

Re: Gas problem???
I removed everything including the gas tank and carb. I cleaned everything and put in fresh regular gas. I tried to find ethanol free but none of the stations close carried it. Also cleaned all ground wire connections. Cart cranks and runs smooth but just will not reach but about half speed. Any other suggestions?

Re: Gas problem???
Just a thought out loud here but have you looked at the drive belt to make sure it's not worn and is working properly? I had my 96 act kind of like what your saying and it ended up being the *** belt.

Re: Gas problem???
Thanks for the suggestion, I didn't check the belt. A few weeks before I bought the cart there was a lift kit installed and I was told the belt was replaced at that time. I will check the manual to see what the belt should be. Should the length be the same with or without a lift kit? I have the body off the cart and ran it yesterday the the belt doesn't top out on the engine pulley likes it does running with no load.
