Testing a 2 cycle ingiter
Awhile back my cart would stop and backfire. Then exhibited a no spark condition. I replaced the Igniter, and it fired right up. Had tons of pep. Then dropped dead again. No spark or weak spark when turning the ignition power off. I figured the pulsar was bad and replaced it, but the cart still won't run. Also noticed the igniter gets hot. I think I may have gotten a bad igniter. Anyone know how to mock up the ckts and bench test a igniter? I have the nasty suspicion I just burnt up 120$. Wish I'de seen the HEI retrofit posts before buying a OEM part.

There is no way to test the igniter other than replacement

Re: Testing a 2 cycle ingiter
Chunking parts at it could be a bit pricey tho. I'de prefer to test it if there's another way first.

Re: Testing a 2 cycle ingiter
Check the voltage at the two small solenoid terminals while cranking the engine.
Then, do the same with the voltage regulator D+ wire disconnected (see if it starts too). |

Re: Testing a 2 cycle ingiter
I was having the same problem and did the retro fit and like you the problem persisted. I looked into the temperature of HEI modules and was told that it is normal for them to get hot. I am thinking that we may be facing another problem.

Re: Testing a 2 cycle ingiter
Well, installed a GM coil and everything was better!!!!! My cart runs like a champ. But now I have found that my secondary clutch spring is weak. The thing is bogging down and only going about 5 mph. Looking at the plug, the fuel mixture and spark couldn't be any better. I must share that the conversion was well worth it as the parts were only about $60 and I know my cart better. Thanks buggiesgonewild!!!!!
