Default Smoke - 1991 Ez-Go Marathon 3PG

Hi All,

Everything is running fine with the engine, she kicks over immediately and runs steady. Only thing I notice is that there is white smoke (not tons but noticeable in the garage). There is a separate oil tank and feed to mix the gas/oil in this engine. Is there an adjustment that could help? The compression is 145. Somewhere, I seem to recall reading about a setting for oil from to the engine...I do not have torque wrench and do not want to rip appart the top of the engine if I don't have to...Any help would be appreciated. Once this is resolved, I will be adding a lift kit, redo the seat covers and add new paint...Will post pictures as we make progress...Thanks!

2 stroke engines tend to smoke a little, you should really only use them in well ventilated areas like outside. It's hard to convey the amount of smoke your seeing on a forum post but it sounds normal to me.

Thanks for the info...I was hoping that it was possible to it to smoke a bit and still be running normal. Yep - agree on the garage issue...When it is run in the garage the door is up and the cart is parked at the exit...It is easier to pick up the fact that is is smoking but is pretty much as outside as it can be and still work on it out of the rain...Thanks for your info - good advice too.

Have a great day...

Mike

If it is two stroke, you have a problem if it don't smoke. It should not smoke so badly that you could use to to spray for moskitoes, but smoke it should. If it is oil injected, meaning you don;t have to mix the oil with the gas when you put gas in it like you do a weed eater, then the mix is probably ok. If you have to mix you oil, then check to make sure you are not adding too much oil to your fuel. The mix ratio should be on the cart somewhere near the feul tank. If not, somebody on here should know the mix ratio for your cart or you can clal a local dealer and they will probably tell you that for free...

Cool Re: Smoke - 1991 Ez-Go Marathon 3PG

Most outboard 2 stroke boat engines smoke a little too which is normal. From what we read here you're ok.

Thanks everyone for the info...at first I thought that there should be no smoke but what you say makes sense it being a 2-cycle and all...I never noticed the smoke before in the yard but when I was working on it with it up on blocks and the seat off, I did see a small amount. It was always there, but driving it around or watching the family driving it, it was never noticed...it is really coming together now - hoping for a lift kit in next 4 weeks and then a paint job and other mods...finally got engine compartment looking good...removed, checked, sanded and repainted muffler and exhaust with engine paint...degreased engine and CRC'd electrical...also replacing nut and bolts with stainless as I take (pry!) the old ones off...thank God for WD-4...Thanks for all of your input -it was definitely helpful....Mike

Careful with the stainless hardware. It has a tendency to gall up when over tightened. Get some anti-seize at your local auto parts store and use it liberally on all of the bolts and even on your plugs when you change them. You'll be happy you did!

I have a 3PG in my golf cart, it smokes really bad, still has the factory oil-injector in use. You COULD use to spray for moskitoes. Stinks REALLY BAD. man that I bought it from said that he used CHEAP NAPA oil. I am going to change to something a little better, my friend uses Wal*Mart Supertech in his and is very happy.

I should add the cart runs REALLY good, never had any problems
