1979 ezgo 3 wheel cart clutch
Hi everyone..New here and new to carts..
I have got myself a John Deere cart i picked up for cheap, runs on spray, so i am assuming ill have to rebuild the fuel pump. but i noticed major clutch noise, so i took apart the primary drive and i found a mess in there..will post pics..i am sure finding a clutch for this is going to be impossible probably..is there a comet clutch from a snowmobile that will fit in its place..if anyone has any manuals they want to share for this beast that would be excellent.. Thanks |

Re: 1979 ezgo 3 wheel cart clutch
Welcome to BGWWell I'm thinking first remove the Drive clutch then I would look at an 80-88 style clutch it may fit the only thing that I see a difference in is it would have the extra pulley on it for an external s/g which you don't have but I think it should work. It appears at one time the spring broke and some one kept on going until it blew apart. I have a clutch on my 87 that looks internally like yours. If I'm wrong I'm sure someone will let us know my feelings won't be hurt.

Hey thanks Lou for the info..ya that's the impression i got from it when i opened it up..now my task is going to be to get the clutch off with out a proper puller, does someone know what size of bolt goes into the clutch end..so i can try packing the hole with grease and pop it off that way..

By the photos the driven looks like my 79 ezgo. I'm assuming 76-88 clutches would work.

Think it's ether 9/16 fine thread or 5/8 fine go with a 2" bolt length. If you have the bolt why not get a piece of solid rod 3" long and insert it in the hole then you have the perfect puller for future projects Just a thought but ether will work.

Re: 1979 ezgo 3 wheel cart clutch
You have a pre 1980 2PG engine. It is 244 cc and 9 hp. Your serial number would appear to indicate that it was born in May 1979.
The BV 18 carburetor only has one adjustment which is the slow running by pass screw. This is a horizontal screw near the top of the carburetor and should be held in place with a small lock nut. It would not hurt to completely dismantle the carburetor and clean the jets and nozzles. Adjusting the air by pass is normally accomplished by undoing the lock nut and gently winding the screw in and then out 2 turns. Now run the cart and then adjust the screw 1/2 turn either way and run the cart again. Repeat until you feel you have achieved optimal performance. Don't forget to retighten the lock screw. Dave |

Re: 1979 ezgo 3 wheel cart clutch
Hey Dave thanks for the info on the cart...how do i get a bigger image of the carb diagram..i'm going to have to take it apart and clean it...i have no idea what has been ran threw the cart...the feul pump on it is a mikuni..is there no pulse line that runs to it like a snowmobile or is it on the underside of the pump...its going to have to be rebuilt as well...
Thanks |

Re: 1979 ezgo 3 wheel cart clutch
Hey everyone
So today i torn into the carb and it seems the previous people lost a screw on it and just tossed some thing in it...Ive attached some pictures to show, whats the number of air screw that's suppose to be in there, is it just a screw needle or is there a spring or nut that goes on it..i also noticed that the gas inlet tube has been re attached Thanks |

Re: 1979 ezgo 3 wheel cart clutch
Hey guys
I went to pull the clutch today and with the 9/16 and the 5/8 bolt it was too big at first...only thing i got in there was a 7/16..it went in and out poped a white bushing..so i went back to the 9/16 bolt and the 5/8 bolt and both are too small..what is the size of the clutch bolt to use so i can make a puller.. |
