Re: 1987 ezgo no start
87 ezgo 2 cycle marathon Has spark at first click, But wont stay steady, Installed HEI Conversion. Has 12 volts to ing. coil wire, But only 7-8 at coil with wire on. And cranking. Not sure if thats normal. Continuity test from pulsar, Check good, But only have .025-.035 ac volts

have you reversed the red/blue pulsar wires to see what happens? you may have to do it. Look for bad ground connections and be sure the module is grounded good one of the mounting holes has a metal sleeve in it and it has to be grounded. Try that and get back.

Re: 1987 ezgo no start
Yes I reversed blue and red wires no change, My output from pulsar ac volts are .025 to .032 Is that too low? Ive seen on this sight 1/2 volt to .8 volt is required. I did grind of frame and mount module, With sheet metal screws good ground. Tried new module and ing coil, Just in case I got bad new ones.
Thanks, Whats next?? Pat |

Re: 1987 ezgo no start
this may sound goofy but check where your plug wire goes into coil.. i bought an 83 a few months ago that wasnt gettin a spark i played with bout 2 weeks before i accidentally jerked the wire out of the coil.. then i realized the kids i gave 25 bucks for the cart put the wire in all sideways and wasnt gettin a good connection.. i cut the wire back a few inches and pushed it back into the coil and voila!!! hope this helps... sry if it dont..

Re: 1987 ezgo no start
Again, I have new HEI Conversion, New coil, New coil wire, new GM Module, Clean surface grounded through screws, Attached to frame. Checked all wiring, Re checked again. I'm going to replace Pulsar today, If I can find one. ac volts are .025 I think too low? Any Help, Advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks again

Re: 1987 ezgo no start
Check air gap between pulsar and flywheel - .016 I think.
Also check / add grounds to body and harness grounds - the ground path is as important as the hot side. The mount hole on the HEI with the brass sleeve is a ground as well - some of the online diagrams don't explain this well. |

Re: 1987 ezgo no start
Unable to locate new pulsar, In same day. I did remove flywheel to inspect pulsar, Looks like previous owner, May have had off. Pulsar looks damaged at the magnet side, Too close, Nick on magnet. I checked gap between metal part of pulsar, To crankshaft only .010 I Will try to set to .016 today. Hopefully that's were you take measurement from, Does make sense. To close of setting, May have caused damage to pulsar. Thanks for the HELP!
ps That may be cause of low .025 ac volts from pulsar while cranking |

Re: 1987 ezgo no start
According to ez go specs, the gap should be .027-.032, . I would set at .030. Yes the ac output should be .5 to 1v AC. Be sure your ignition coil (-) terminal is going to pin "C" on HEI. The voltage reading at the + terminal on ignition coil should be between 11-12v DC when cranking, if not you either have a bad battery or wiring connection, corrision problems, micro switches, etc between ign switch and solenoid.

Re: 1987 ezgo no start
Yes Ignition coil - neg is going to pin C On HEI Module, Only have 8.8 volts at pos + side of coil when cranking, This was one of my original concerns. Checked at solenoid D terminal 8.8 as well. Has 12.50 volts out of voltage regulator, To terminal A on solenoid. Micro start switch goes to terminal D only 8.8 volts as well. Could it be the solenoid? Have not reset air gap at pulsar coil. Did set to .020 earlier today, ac volts from pulsar .145 What do you think Thanks again all help is welcome.
ps have checked all wiring connections, grounds, etc |
