Default eratic spark in 1989 ez go

I have spark only when I prees the pedal and let go. I have tested ground and everything looks good, I tested the pulsar coil and had 144 ohms and while cranking I had approximately .200 volts. Could anyone help me with the problem of no spark?

It could be your ignitor. There is no way to test that except if you have someone else with a running cart you can swap it onto.If you can do that and find your ignitor is in fact bad, they run a good deal of money.Like $180 or so.

You might want to look up the HEI conversion on this site. It's very simple to do.I suck at electrical but I did it in about ten minutes. And the HEI module is available at just about any auto parts store for around $12.

Thanks for the info and the welcome. I have learned a lot from this site. I am thinking of doing the HEI conversion but if the pulsar coil is bad the HEI won't solve the problem will it?

No: but the pulsar most likely is no the problem. Ignitors fail most often.

Let us know how it goes. It's super simple.Even if that isn't the problem, I think of it as an improvement on the stock ignition system.

I'll try to keep in touch and let you know how it goes. Is there a certain year gm module and coil that is the best to use?

Thanks

I just grabbed a random one out of a distributor in a junkyard and it worked out just fine.If you go the junkyard route you can probably get a dozen or so dirt cheap(or in your pockets *innocent whistling*)and be sure that at least one will work.It will probably be on an older chevy or GM.Mine was from a 79, so maybe 80's and so will have them as well. You take off the distributor cap and rotor and there will be a vaguely boomerang shaped unit underneath. That's the thing you want. You won't need any of the wires. As far as the coil, I just have a 12 volt automotive coil from something or other that was laying around and it works fine.My stock coil was working but seemed awfully weak.that's the only reason I switched it.

For the record I did pay for the HEI unit.

Heliarc, thanks for the info. Did you just use a automotive spark plug wire also after the conversion?
