Default 1973 EZGO runs in reverse, not in forward

I have a 1973 EZGO w/ the 175CC Fuji engine. It will run in reverse like a champion but will not run in forward, will start with choke but die quickly. I am well into this rebuild and this is my last hold out. Some info that may help.

Compression in both directions: 120psi
New coil, plug, wire. Good Spark in both directions, tested using spark tester.
Muffler has been BBQ'd, runs the same with the muffler on or off, except of course for the sound

This model has the internal starter, any help or advice would be appreciated to get this thing running like a champion again.

Bodie I would be looking at the crank seals. They have been known to cause this problem.

Even at 120psi in both directions, cold, you think crank seals?

Bodie I don't know just thru it out there as this problem has come up before I would see no reason for it to run in reverse and not forward. A seal could be rapping up in the forward position. Have they been changed?

Just a thought, do you have the type of spark tester that you can run the engine and see the spark? You may be losing some power to the ignition once the engine quits cranking and actually starts. You could also put an automotive timing light on the cart, not to time it, but just to see if the ignition flashes continue with the engine trying to run. You may have a partial short in the circuit that grounds out the ignition when you let up on the accelerator. I'd check through that circuit for corrosion in a switch or wiring connector. Like " racin161 " said, I can't think of a good reason why it won't run well in the reverse direction!

Is that the model with a forward reverse switch with the micro switches in it?
Here is a schematic.

The crank seals provide the crankcase pressure that moves the fuel to the carb - they are independent of cylinder compression.

As the seals are rubber inside a metal ring, they do tend to wear out, and unevenly as the cart runs mostly in forward. If you lose crankcase pressure, it affects your fuel flow.

Bodie, don't tell me you did a rebuild without doing the crank seals, did you?

On one other note, you can slip off the drive belt, and try revving in forward. Spray some WD40 at the seals - if the motor revs up, you know what your problem is.

Seals are good, think we got it figured out. The points won't open properly. Upon closer inspection they appear to be for a 74 not a 73. New ones on order.

The points were not opening/closing properly in forward. Ordered new points and replaced. worked fine post install.
