No power up hill

We have a 91 EZ-Go. runs great on flat road but up hill I can walk faster than it will go. I'm talking not much incline. I have lifted it 4 1/2" and put 22" tires on it. Any help would be appreciated Thanks.

I forgot to mention that I have put in a new piston and jug about two years ago

91 should be a 3PG, if I recall ... the usual suspects (provided You're getting good compression) are as follows:

1) Plugged Carb Jets - disassemble all jets and needle valve on carb and clean thoroughly

2) Plugged Muffler - slightly open bolts between exhaust pipe and muffler (it WILL be loud) and see if it runs any better. If so, search "muffler BBQ" here in the forum

3) Plugged Intake - loosen clamp that holds air intake to carb, pull hose off and see if that does the trick, if so new air cleaner element (filter)

4) Fouled Plug - Pull plug, inspect - if black and oily, or on the other end of the spectrum (grey and crusty) replace with new plug.

5) Fuel Filter - should be replaced yearly anyhow, get a new one

At this point, if it isn't any of those "usual" suspects, let us know and we can go into a little more heavy-duty diagnostics

Has it always done this or did this happen gradually or suddenly? The problem could be as simple as a worn spark plug, two strokes are particularly tough on plugs.
The big tires will of course over gear the final drive and amplify the problem. The first step will be to run a compression test to ensure that the engine is giving all it can give. Anything less than 100 psi is going to be a cause for concern.
Next I would look at the operation of the clutches to make sure that the drive is open at rest and fully closed at speed. The driven clutch should be fully closed at rest and fully open at speed. It is not unusual for the driven clutch to get sticky and not fully open as the cart slows down. This has the effect of holding an auto in 4th gear up a hill which will slow you way down.
If neither of these is your issue we can look deeper including fitting a shorter belt.

This should help You with the jets - I have circled all that need cleaning. Make sure all holes are clear and that needle valve is moving correctly (clean out the seat for the needle jet if necessary)

Mornin, Dave !!!! I figured hit the simple stuff first, it's still WAY too early (and not enough coffee yet) to start dealing w clutches, etc (at least for ME, hahahaha)

I second the shorter belt if you need more hill power, but let's make sure You have the rest in order first, OK WoodChiper?

Thanks for all on the replies. I have not done anything to carb. for a while so I will start there and never knew anything about a clogged muffler. I did take the intake hose off and no change to that.
