big sqreech noise
I am new to the forum and am hoping for a bit help determining the real problem I am facing.
I have a 99 TXT Gas 295. The wife took it to the neighbors house up the street the other day and came walking home. Claimed it was out of gas (women, huh!). I walk back to the cart with some gas to find out that gas was not the problem. When pushing down on the gas pedal the cart will let out a sqreech. The belt is slipping around the starter/generator. The clutch is not moving and holding the belt and thus the noise. I have not mechanically worked on this cart yet (engine wise) with exception of the LT front kit and a tri link rear end (suspension and cosmetics). My initial gues with little experience is the clutch is siezed somehow. Any thoughts out there. Thanks for helping out the NEWBIE! Last edited by dmonach; 07-16-2008 at 11:34 AM.. Re: big sqreech noise
Take off the belt...turn the starter/generator and the clutch by hand...see which one is locked up.My guess would be the SG

Re: big sqreech noise
should both turn by hand....? The SG does spin but perhaps as you say....it may be loose and not grabbing. I"ll check it.....
I will cross my fingers that it could be "THAT SIMPLE" |

Re: big sqreech noise
My ST 350 did this. It was a loose starter/generator belt. Tightened it and no more problems: 1/2 or 13 mm wrench if I remember correctly.

Re: big sqreech noise
Thank everyone. I just went our and tightened the SG and now instead of the sqreech, I just get the hum of the SG try to turn the clutch.....
I gues my finger crossing did not work..... I will take the belt off and try to spin the clutch..... my guess is is will not spin. What is that a indicator of. New clutch or a simple repair..... Any thoughts.... BTW.... I am on a few other forum for dirtbikes and they do not respond so quickly .... Nice job !!!! |

Re: big sqreech noise
Welcome!
The really bad news if it comes to that is that the engine siezed up. I hope not but you should be able to roll the engine over by hand even with the SG belt still on and tight. Good Luck! |

Re: big sqreech noise
Good luck but it does sound like a locked up engine. Time for a big block!
