79 3 wheel marathon finally running but with issues

Hi guys, I posted on here a couple months ago about a cart I just bought for $125 that didn't run. Motor turned over but just barely. After taking it out and checking it I found the bottom real rusty. Put some oil inside and kept working it and it got free as could be. I put it back in to check it only to find out it needed brushes in the starter/generator. Ordered them from e-bay and took the engine out again and replaced them. Great, now it turns over good. Of course not quite as good with the plug and intake back on, but it builds up cranking speed with the pedal down. Then I moved to checking for spark and nothing. Ordered new points and condenser. Took the engine out for the 3rd time to replace them. Getting good at taking the engine out by now. Put the points and condenser in and replaced engine. Now I have spark. Checked with a small spray of starting fluid and it fired up. I am now happy as a clam. Put it all back together and added fuel today and I am able to drive it now. My main problem now is that it cranks hard and slow. I just put a brand new battery in. Also, it wont even roll over in reverse. It tries but it seems like its too hard. Any ideas? As of now this cart is only setting me back about $300 with the new battery, paint and parts including the price of the cart. Not too bad I don't think. Sorry this is so long. Thanks. BILL
