Default Shimming a driven driven clutch

I have a 79 ezgo marathon and the driven clutch spring is weak and a new clitch is not in the budget at the moment. I was wondering if anybody had pics of where the shims would go and what thickness, size ect... this is not a comet clutch by the way. Thanks for the help.

Just to clarify,You are talking about the axle-clutch(Driven).Yes you can shim it,but be careful disassembling. The older clutches like yours have 2 split-clips and they can be fun.Check the condition of the bushing that the sliding-sheave has in it to ride on the shaft, these are usually shot(the sheave will wobble badly, and not slide evenly),making the clutch about useless and noisy.I don't know if replacement parts are availiable for this style clutch. Hope this helps.

Yes the driven clutch. I built a spring compressor and I have it apart now. The shaft is a little wore even after a new bushing. The reason I asked is that I can push the helix and spring down by hand to put the clips back on. To me that spring shouldn't be that soft. I'm just trying to make it last till winter. I use it at the drag strip.

They aren't very stiff,by hand is how I do them too.You can add a shim, start with 1/8".Hope this helps. If you want to get more low-end,remove the cover on the Primary-Clutch and add a 3/16"-spacer(go to a spring-shop,ask them for a 1-1/8" U-Bolt Washer-They are Grade .You won't believe the difference with just that and no other mods.I ran that setup almost 4yrs.with22"-tires running offroad,It was a nite/day difference in Low-End Torque. And use the stock-belt if you do the Primary-Clutch shim.Hope this helps.

Thanks pachanga! You wouldn't happen to have pics of where to put the shims on a driven clutch would ya? What's the trick to getting the drive clutch off?

i need some low end"take off"torque real bad for my driving habits
so the driven clutch on the rear end of my 2 stroke is where i need to shim?even tho i have a 1 inch shorter belt?
my rearend runs sideways,is it poss to do this on the cart?with motor and everything in place..
any pics available anywhere? does the shim just go behind the small cutch thing before the big pulley? or do i need to take the pully apart?
i have all the big washers a man would want,,a stock pile from a life of saving them lol..really need more low end..when i smash the gas the art winds up,starts out slow till it gets wound up..with me and the wife and our fat azzes i need more low end,,thanks, john

If you have the short-belt,the shim won't work.
