Default 2009 RXV Questions? New to gas carts.

I just bought a 2009 RXV. The first time I took it out and road a mile or two it had a smell coming from it. It was like a new motor smells kind or i guess and it gets really hot under and seat and on the bottom of the seat. The exhaust runs accross the top of the motor. The bottom of the seat is really hot but you cannot fill it through the seat. Is this normal for gas cart. Is there anything i can do to keep the heat down. Has anybody ever coated the header and exhaust like on hot rods for the heat. Thanks for any help.
