Lights Brighten while driving
I just finished installing a pair of lights on the top of my gas ezgo txt. After testing them with the cart off or just the key turned, I took it for a drive and noticed that the lights brightened up quite a bit while driving. While the cart is moving they stay bright and don't fluctuate or anything like that, but as soon as the engine stops they dim down again. I figure it's just the alternator giving more juice to the lights, but I'm not really sure if they should be doing that or not.
The lights are installed with a relay and some in-line fuses, if it means anything. The power and ground come right from the battery, but they are otherwise hooked up like a standard pair of automobile lights. It doesn't really bother me at all, but I was wondering if it might be bad for the battery or the lights or something else. Thanks for the help, Lamcops |

I don't know why no one has picked this up but nevertheless what you are seeing is not a bad sign in fact it is a good thing. With the cart at rest your battery will be at 12 (ish) volts. With it running the generator is charging the battery and increasing the voltage to, let's say, 14.5 volts. So the lights brightening up are simply proving that your generator is doing its job.

I don't know if anyone has done this with a golf cart, but I installed a capacitor for a car audio system in line with the 12v power in my 68 Fury, and it keeps my lights at an even level whether at idle or in motion.

Thanks for the replies!
I'm glad to here that its actually a GOOD thing. I wasn't too worried about it, but I figured I should ask because I wasn't sure if it was okay for the internals. The capacitor is a pretty good idea, but with the cost I'll probably leave it as is and use the money on some new hub caps. |

Normal dont worry about it. The more juice you are demanding the more it will do that!
