1991 marathon 2 stroke

my cart was running great and then all of the sudden spitting and backfiring. Apparently the previous owner was mixing engine oil instead of 2 stroke oil mix so I cleaned out the lines, fuel pump, carburetor and gas tank. I replace and primed the system with proper mix and still no go. It will turn over and run for a bit but then backfire and just idle with no power. The service dept near my home said it sounded more like an electrical problem. Any one have any dealings as such? Compression is at 130 forward and backward.

It could be many things but I would start with the hypothesis that the motor oil has fouled your carburetor. If it were me, I would get that thing out of there, take it down to the last jet and nozzle and clean it all out. If that doesn't fix it then at least you have a clean carburetor. At the same time replace the fuel filter which will be just as clogged.

The fuel-lines may also be soft and collapsing from the oil.Rubber fuel-lines don't like motor-oil.Blow out the pickup in the tank as well.
