Default time to get'rr runnin!

wellp the cart has been put off to the side a bit but it's finally time to get goin and get this thing running again....had a golf cart mechanic just check it out and he told us that the engine is showing no compression at all, so it's finally time to get this top end rebuilt in the next few weeks!

cart has spark, pumps fuel, now we are going to fix this compression issue and finally be able to enjoy it.

any feedback on where i can get a good price on a top end build kit for 85 ezgo marathon is helpful.

I'm am going to look at Heliarche's video,
, for a walkthrough....and I plan on following this list of steps that GoTeeMan gave me a while back....
1: unhook fuel line from tank at the inlet to the fuel pump.
2: unhook cables from the carb and then from the mounting brkt.
3: after unhooking the battery cables from the battery but leaving cables attached remove the starter and set aside
4: remove muffler
5: remove plug wire
6: remove air cleaner tube
7: disconnect the pulsar wire
8: 3 bolts in the drivers side and 4 bolts on the passenger side
9: remove the engine.

any tips or pointers before i do this would be appreciated, i'm looking forward to getting this thing running by the end of this month.

I had my cylinder bored out 0.50 over and bought the oversized piston and rings. The bore job was $50 and the piston, rings, and wristpin were $50 and change.Add the gaskets and whatnot and I was at around $110.Compared to the top end kits I've seen so far, this is pretty cheap.

I've thought about just getting the piston set too Heliarc, but I wouldn't know where to take my cylinder around where i live to get it bored out, and me and my brother are splitting the cost of the cart...so we figured we would just get the top end kit.....

cheapest I found is Blockbuster carts for about $163 with shipping and tax....does that seem like a good deal compared to everyone else selling at approx. $200?

okay, got some progress on this project today....got all the cables unhooked from carb, got the battery unhooked, started generator is unhooked (3 bolts), but i'm stumped right now with a small issue.....

How do you get this little black piece that is holding the wires down undone??? it's preventing me from moving the starter out of the way and it is connected to the mounting bracket....?

Once I get this clip off, i already have the muffler removed so i will just have to remove the pulsar wire (which i need somebody to tell how to do that), the air cleaner tube is easy, and then the mounting bolts which im hoping aren't too bad....

I got my new cylinder and piston w/ rings....got the rings on the piston already so I'm ready to get this engine out and put the new top end on and then have her running like a queen! any help is appreciated!

I'm not sure how to undo that clip.Mine never had it when I got it and I don't seem to miss it.It's not quite so tidy as underneath your seat though.

The pulsar(I think)is just going to be a double spade connector plug that looks sort of like "l -"One horizontal, and one vertical. You should be able to pull it apart.I think I can see it in your picture. The black cable that's bundled up with your starter cables and it runs to the firewall.Just look it over carefully but I'm pretty sure it pulls right apart. You might have to clip those zip ties off though.
