What year cart is this??

No it should not be locking up, if it's a 2 stroke are you mixing the gas and oil??

Definately should not be locking up!!! if it's a 4 stroke, check the oil level in the engine. If it's a 2 stroke, be sure you have oil in the system (either premixed or in the reservoir!!). With both of there motors, I would check the cooling fins and clean them of grass/dirt. There may be permanent damage to the motor if it has locked up several times.

2-Strokes do not have oil in them, thats why its' in the fuel! The ports in the cylinder are called Transfer-Ports,they transfer a portion of the Inlet-Charge(the oil is heavier so it will separate in that situation) thru the bottom-end to lube it.Then it returns back up thru the top-end and out the exhaust. If you find Oil in a 2-cycle Lower-End,Its' in need of a rebuild or case-seals since its' not scavenging properly.Don't go 50:1,Mix it 1-1/2oz per gal. and make sure the oil says "Pre-Mix" most Injection-Oils can't be used in premix they won't lube properly. There are some Injection Oils that will work for both, but you need to read the labels.I ran mine very hard for almost 4-yrs. with 1-1/2oz mix and it just kept going.50:1 will plug the muffler and foul plugs. Its' also better to run Higher-Octane if you are running it hard alot.I ran Sunoco Ultra-93 in mine, never had any issues, changed the plug every other year.Hope this helps.

it wasnt 2 stroke i found in the bottom end atleast im pretty sure there was quite a bit so i believ it was engine oil the 1 ounce is not enough to lubricate the motor and the 1 ounce doesnt come through all at once either so theres a very little portion thats why in dirt bikes and snowmobiles that are two stroke they still take engine oil

If there are valves in it....It's a 4 stroke. No valves....2 stroke. It should NOT have oil in the crankcase.

Where would the dipstick go?!? Or the oil filter? Or the drain plug? A 2 stroke has none of these.

The 1oz. of oil goes in a gallon of gas,A 2-stroke is Fuel-Lubricated.2-Strokes have a piston only,no valvetrain,or camshaft. They run on Port-Timing and Vacuum. If you have a Stock-88' or older Marathon its' either a 2-stroke 244cc,or an electric-cart.Those are the only options from the factory. If you find oil in the cases on a 2-cycle,its' not scavenging properly due to bad-rings,piston,cylinder,or crank-seals.Too much oil-retention will cause a case-seal blow-out at minimum,a total case-failure at worst.Dirt-Bike,Golf-Cart,Snowmobile,OutBoard Marine Engines, and Personal WaterCraft are all 2-strokes(not all now,but you get the point).A 2-cycle is a 2-cycle,no matter what its' in.None of them have oil in their cases.Oil-Injection replaced Pre-Mix on most 2-strokes other than small items like weedwackers,chainsaws,etc...in the early 80's for the ease of use,and emissions.Pre-Mix puts the oil in the fuel Manually,Oil-Injection does it automatically, controlled by throttle-position.Hope this clears it up.

I'm not sure on the oil that you found but if I had to guess I would say that you may be using fuel with ethanol in it for your cart and maybe since ethanol fuel is know to burn hotter than fuel without it I'm going to say that its actually a vapor lock situation with the carberator. I maybe wrong but these are finicky machines and any change from what they were designed for in the 80's will make them act different.
