Default Ez go st 2 problems

Hi everyone, I'm new here and new to owning a golf cart so take it easy if I sound retarded, I've read a few of the tech stickies and still can't seem to narrow down my problem. As soon as I got my cart I wanted it to go faster so I read the tech sticky on the governor and adjusted it to go faster and it ran fine till I got it in some mud and soft sand. A buddy of mine told me that if you adjust the spring too much it will take away some of the power when it bottomed out, so I adjusted it back a little and it was doing every thing I need it to, and then it started back firing really loud, so I turned outback some more and it still back fires. Another issue I'm having is that it seems really cold natured, if it sits for a few hrs it will take it a minute or two to get going real good, is that just the nature of having a gas cart or is there maybe a carb problem, I know this is a lot of reading, but its the best way to put it.

look around for a exhast leak, a little air in the system causes that. and as far as the warming up, it does take a little while to get it to top out on any older machine but one thing i would think is teh muffler. if it hasn''t been changed in a while take it off and if it is a little heavy i would throw it on a nice sized camp fire for a while, will burn out most of the crap and saves a quick $200+

what year cart?

do you have the 13hp KAW engine or do you hve the subaru twin cyl engine.

If its the 13hp Kaw eng, replace the spark plug. I have fixed several by doing this.

over 5lbs and i would throw it on till it started turning red and then pull it out and rattle it around a little. most of it will fall out and then you jsut let it sit, i would on suggest doing this once or twice over the time of the muffler before you replace it.

the "Muffler BBQ" really only works for 2-stroke engines, unfortunately - the 4-stroke engines don't pass oil residue with the exhaust like a 2-stroke so BBQ-ing the muffler on a 4-stroke isn't going to do anything but weaken it

oh, ok. i thought it would but then again i have an 1983 3 wheel so the plan was all good for mine, wish i would have not broke it though. found a new one too, only one in the state...... then punching a pin hole might work a lil better, it will sound loud but not as bad as no muffler at all. but i would probably look for a leak or try your way.

I believe the cart is a 07 or 08 Soley based on Internet research I've done. It has a Subaru engine not sure about the HP, basically what I'm getting from this thread is take it to a shop and have a complete tune up done

First of all, Welcome to BGW

Second, I wouldn't take it to the shop just yet. If you are handy at all you can do a tuneup yourself. Change the plugs and adjust the valves. Both are easy to do and may fix your issues. The backfire may be because the throttle plate may not be closing all the way. Make sure your cable adjustments have not caused this..

All these procedures can be found in the EZ Go Gas section in the stickies

Thanks for that, I'll check it out any advice on where I could get the plugs at for a reasonable price. And how to ensure I get the right ones
