An Automotive solenoid "will" work on your system since it is a 12 volt system.

I beg to differ on the conclusion.
Automotive solenoids are not designed to be 'closed' for long periods of time, just for short bursts. Therefore, they will 'work', but after a while they will burn out and you will end up with the same problem (I would say less than 5 hours of run time). I say this out of experience (been there done that). I would recommend to stick with Golf Cart solenoids.. If you are strapped for cash, you can try to use a truck relay (rated more than 25 amps @ 12 volts).. they are dirt cheap (less than $5)... I haven't tried this, but it MIGHT work... |
