295 cc oil leak, compression problem

I have a recently purchased 99 ezgo that has some engine issues. Though it ran, it had no power, would go on flat ground but couldn't climb even a small grade. I checked compression, both warm and cold and it was about 100# even in both cylinders. Tried the oil in cylinder trick, no change. Checked the valve lash and all four valves tight , as in no lash at all. I reset them to .004", ran the motor briefly, like five minutes and rechecked compression, still 100#. The previous owner had a receipt for a rebuilt engine though I didn't look at the date. The motor was very clean under the valve cover, like it was fresh, no visible cam wear. The motor also has an oil leak under the fan shroud so I proceeded to pull that off and when I removed the air cleaner I noticed about a tablespoon of fresh motor oil in the air cleaner shroud. Wondering how that got there. After removing the fan cover, the whole side of the engine was caked in dirt and oil. I'm thinking the seal at the fan is leaking. Does that sound likely? What do I need to do to repair it? Why the oil in the air cleaner? Should I proceed with a valve job or look further? When doing valve jobs on these, does one replace the exhaust valves or regrind them? I hope it's ok to ask so many questions in one post. Thanks for the help in my previous post.

If there is caked up oil in and around the fan, it might be a blown gasket.

Do you mean the seal around the crank? or some other gasket?

There is a large gasket that goes on the side with the fan. The gasket that seals the case. I had the same problem and replacing that gasket fixed the problem.

So the repair sequence would be, remove fan then the side cover? Anything I should know before attempting this?

Hmmm... went out to my shop to look at side cover Kungfului described and it dawned on me that the oil in the air cleaner is coming from the crankcase breather tube. That can't be good!

Is this cart lifted? If so you need to fill your crankcase by capacity, not by the mark on the dipstick. Too much oil will cause overflow into the air filter. Also larger than stock tires and wheels will cause performance issues. If this is your case there are clutch springs and shorter belt setups to help with this issue!

All of the above, it is lifted, stretch plastics long travel in front and something else in back (visible on my other post) and 22" tires though a similar set up on my stock G 16 (previous cart) didn't seem to affect the power.

Why would lifting the cart effect the oil measurement, assuming it was level? Does the rear lift change the angle of the engine?

Lifting the cart lowers the rear of the engine causing the oil on the dip stick to show that it is low. You might want to check the drain line that comes from the breather to the crankcase. It has a banjo fitting where it connects to the engine. This is were mine was leaking from. Raysor
