Default Weird possible clutch issue 86 Marathon

Well I've found a new trouble that I haven't seen before - when I run the new cart close to wide open and start to really get up to speed, it feels like it's "grabbing" or "binding" (almost like someone was slamming on the brake and holding it) for a few seconds, then it releases and seems to be fine for awhile ... The clutches *seem* to be operating normally, although the drive clutch did make a little noise when I first got the cart it has stopped for some time so I'm assuming it was just a little weird from sitting - anyone else ever encounter this issue and if so, what's my next best move to troubleshoot or fix it? It's a minor issue but it's pretty disconcerting, especially if it doesn't do it for awhile and takes you by surprise, yeesh

Thanks Guys !!!!

I had a brake shoe stick at random because of a broken spring. It did this same thing, but at pretty much all speeds. Mine has hydraulic brakes, but I'm sure the same thing could happen with cable brakes. Also, since the cart has sat for a bit, the drums probably have some rust on them. This would aggravate the grabbing condition!

You could pull the driven clutch cover off and the shaft with wd-40. Might be gummed up from sitting awhile.

I too think something more along the brakes, broken spring, highly doubt the clutch would do as you decribe, but i`ve been wrong wonce before............

I vote for a weak spring in the driven clutch so occasionally when you are flat out the clutch opens too wide and the belt falls into the center where it hits the rivets, grabs and slows the cart down so the clutch closes again.

I had an 88 ezgo that the bake lining came loose from the shoe, it would float in the drum and intermittently bind and grab that I originally thought was a clutch problem also.

Brakes look good, Dave looks like the winner on this one (and of course, now that he mentions it I HAVE seen this before, just not myself) ... I'm basing this on the evidence at hand which is a brand new belt with about 30 minutes total run time on it starting to show wear where it would be grabbing those rivets.

NOW - the million dollar question, shim the spring a bit to stiffen it? I blew everything out and hit it with some WD but I'm afraid that will only worsen the problem (of course I sorted that part out mid-spraydown, go figure) - that sounds like my best option unless someone else has a better plan?

I was ginna also say a worn belt but you said you have a new.. the bushing could be possibly worn causing it to stick or jam up.
