Default Smoking GX444 with good compression and correct amount of oil

I have a 1991 Marathon with a 295, I just bought. It smokes pretty bad. I have done a compression test 165 p.s.i. each cylinder and have perfromed and leakdown test. I am between 5% leakage, which is well with-in the limit. The cart is lifted, I have drained and measured 1.5 quarts of oil. I have oil in the air box coming up through the crankcase breather, which indicates bad rings, yet my Snap-on leakdown tester says there fine. Valves are adjusted to .004" What's the deal?

I'm no expert with these robin engines but I do know that with most other engines it is possible to have good compression rings but damaged or broken oil control rings. I've seen it happen with gas and diesel engines. Just a thought.

That's a good thought, that's definetly something to look for if I have to tear it down. I am looking for a service manual for this model, I can't find one on this site for my specific model, anyone know where to find one?
