Angry 89 Ezgo runs, but no power

89 ezgo will run, but doesn't have any pickup or power. The plug gets wet and will foul out in no time. I have replace the plug 5 times, been thu carb 4 times, checked the reeds, cracked the muffler loose and ran it without aircleaner. compression 115 to 120 # and I have check carb linkage to make sure it is closing full. Don't know where to go from here. Also I disconnected the oil injector and mixing 1oz to gal using ethanol free premium gas. I replaced all hoses and clamps. Pulled the pickup line from tank and teflon it tight back in. It will run normal just before it runs out of fuel, with power and pickup, like it leans out just before it runs out.

Crank seals, Fuel Pump, Not checking ALL the jets, missing Idle Mixture screw ... Wow, still a lot of info that needs to be checked on before anyone can jump in with much help.

Seals: Jack the cart up (to prevent runaway injuries) and have a buddy spray some of the dreaded Ether (starting fluid) at the junction of the mainshaft and the rear of the engine (just behind the clutch itself) while cranking it over ... IF it pops or tries to start, bad rear seal. Similar results can be had at the front of the engine.

Pump: Pull the line post-pump, crank it over. Should pulse like nobody's business, a solid late-70's porno. Dribbles, a slow flow .... Bad JuJu - take a closer look at the pump.

The rest - Inspect the carb, bad gaskets, missing components, etc (not just follow-the-leader-clean-it-like-the-diagram-i-found-here-on-the-forums-said-to stuff) ...

Start there, use your head - it's a 2-stroke engine like any minibike, snowmobile, weedeater, etc.

Fuel pump is pumping a good pulseing stream. I have even ran it with the air adjustment screw out. I have checked the seals and have jacked it up and sprayed both shafts with starter fluid, apparently no leaks and no evidences of leaking of oil around. Why would it run normal with all kinds of speed and power just before it runs out of fuel?
Thanks for you anwser, Brew City

Basser,
It sounds to me like the engine is still getting too much fuel and flooding.

It starts to run good as it runs out of fuel because of what you already said, the fuel/air ratio is leaning out. It runs good as it leans out and runs that way until it gets too lean to continue running.

If you've checked everything else, then the carb almost has to be the culprit. It's the point where the fuel and air are mixed to proper proportions.

If you had an air leak on the intake side the fuel would be too lean and you could make it richer by pulling the choke, so it looks like however unlikely it may seem, you still have carb problems.

UNLESS........ Is there a possibility that someone else put gas in the tank that was mixed with a higher oil rate????

I'm just kind of thinking out loud here hoping something might ring a bell for you or someone else.

Perhaps the float valve in the carb is letting too much fuel into the bowl. Take off the carb, remove the bowl and float and clean out the valve.

I've done that several time and I set the float to where it barely reaches the the top of the bowl. I don't have a gauge to check this. You think if I just keep putting more bend on the until it leans out?

Yes- that's what I would do in your situation (keep reducing the amount of fuel in the carb by adjusting the float). Also remove the float needle and blow through the carb fuel inlet with carb cleaner- maybe there is a bit of dirt/grass/hair or something that is keeping the needle from sealing tightly against the seat.

Double check that the choke valve is not sticking closed.

Thanks Kyerik, If the seals were blown, would it speed up just before it runs out of fuel and runs normally?. I shot ether at those 2 seals and nothing happened. I have really worked those jets over. I did notice when I first got into the carb the litttle spring on the neddle valve was sticking and I worked on it and got it freed up. That might have been the problem to start with. Also the spring on the governor was broken and the linkage wasn't closing all the way. Got those things corrected, but still have the same problem. How do you think the float got bent or out of adjustment??

I think that it would run too lean and that it would be really hard to start if the crank seals were bad.

I don't know why it would be flooding now- unless their was dirt or something in between the float needle and seat.

The reason I keep questioning the seals is my grand kids were here and drove it until it got too hot and quit. After that I got it running by replacing the plug, but it was hard to start and it had no power and was running rich and fouling plugs in no time. There is no question they drove the H out of it as they ran a full tank of gas out of it in 3/4 of day!!.
