Monroe shocks finally installed
I have a 79 marathon gasser w/ 5" lift. I put on some monroe 31125 up front and 31000 in back. I wanted to get rid if the weak shock extenders and soften the ride. These are the part numbers for 4-5" lift on a 76-88 gasser. These came a dark blue so i got some self etch primer and some semi gloss black paint. Heres some pics.and with 2 coats of black.here they are installed.the cheapest i found them was at rock auto for $15ea.

I wont know till this spring about the ride as i got the motor out. Its seems way better giving it the bounce test.

Question, I see in your steering set up that you have a rather long extension to connect it to the factory tie rod. Does that flex alot to alter the steering or make it sloppy or does it work pretty good?

My cart was stock height when i got it. I didnt alter any steering components other then i took the long tie rod from over the leaf springs and put it under them when i lifted it. Its still pretty tight. I have low pro tires on it now. New wheel bearings and getting ready to put king pin bushings in it this winter. Sent from my LG-P999 using Tapatalk 2 |

Re: Monroe shocks finally installed
Just an FYI - the ride is night and day different, especially if you still have the original, 20+ year-old shocks on the cart now (worth the investment in RIDE alone, not just to eliminate the extensions if You ask me) ...
So MY question is what you did with the upper bushings on the rear shocks, did you just install without any or did you manage to hunt down a set? I ended up buying some generic steel spacers and cut them down to size, it was a tight fit pressing them into the bushings but I'm sure it will help immensely with longevity, not having the raw rubber on the mounting posts (I'm assuming you just reused the lowers as I did, right?) |

Re: Monroe shocks finally installed
what I meant is the sleeves (bushings) inside the rubber bushings - the bottom one def has to be swapped for fitment reasons, but you should also have a sleeve up top - just putting the rubber bushing over the mounting post will likely cause premature failure or deterioration of the upper bushing IMHO ... Like I said, I just bought a small steel spacer and cut it down to size (if you look at the factory shocks, they also have a sleeve or metal bushing inside trhe upper rubber bushing)

I know what you mean. I bought a new pair of stock rear shocks for the rear when i got my cart and they never came with the steel bushings. I have the ones that came with the monroes. The stock one went on tighter then a you know what on the top stud. I will check that out when i bring out of winter storage.
