Bought a 2001 TXT gasser, running
Last week the mobile service truck came out to work and put 2 new tires on one of the carts (the only gas cart in the fleet), and put "a full set" of wheel bearings on it.
Well, this week, the cart somehow managed to blow the top off of the starter battery. The mobile service truck came out again and declared the battery was ruined and the voltage regulator was to blame. The repair estimate came to almost 200 dollars. Does this Sound right? I've bought the regulator and battery... I happened to be standing there when the owner of the cart fleet was receiving this news, and boy was he irritated. Apparently, he never has problems with his electric carts and decided to not repair this gas one. He bought a used electric cart from the mobile service guy. So I jumped in and offered to buy the gas cart "just to get it off the yard" -nobody wants junk sitting around a business, right. The good: After starting negotiations at 1000 bucks we finally settled at 200. I got a voltage regulator and a battery and could be up and running this weekend. It is a 4 seater, has a roof, 2 new tires, 2 ok tires. The bad: Had to spend 100 bucks on parts. The seats are ruined - the foam is missing huge chunks and the covers are almost all gone! One of the "ok" tires leaked down. I plan to clean it up, re do the seats, add a light kit, a radio and maybe put some wheels on it. If I change the ride height any I will probably try to lower it rather than raise it. Pictures of my wreck soon. (Oh, and this was my first post. So, hello from Texas.) |

Hello Plane and welcome to the madness. You don't know it yet but you made a big mistake buying the cart. Not that it wasn't a good buy I would have done it myself but now you don't own a cart it and the madness owns you and will soon spread from your mind to your wallet. You'll end up changing the ride height dropping an EZ-GO is really really easy but then you will realize how easy airbags are to install. Then you'll recover the seats and notice how crappy they make the body look so you'll want to paint it. Next you know you'll be sitting there with a wrench and a golf cart frame wondering what next. New paint, custom wheels and new tires, new seats, new suspension that rides like a dream and can compensate for people on the back. But of course that leaves you with making more power cause none of us are satisfied specially when trying to show off for friends. Just make sure to post pics so w can all share in the enjoyment. This forum is the closest thing to group counciling as it gets. We are all here to answering any questions so fire away no matter how small/stupid you think they might be.

Dis-assembly has started. It's getting painted Subaru blue (there might some super-ricey stickers in its near future...)
Pinstripes are gone, old paint scuffed, new paint applied: Without the flash With flash: I'm considering putting some Subaru swoosh decals on the side, like this: |
