Default 1997 EZGO battery ground cable

The ground cable to the battery gets very hot, ground cable frayed. A ground wire was placed on the frame, could this cause the battery ground cable to get hot or for the vehicle hard to start? Just put a new gas engine on the vehicle.

to BGW If your ground cable frayed, I would replace it.
