Drive Clutch Question
96 EZGO TXT drive clutch.
The outer clutch face where the belt rides is rippled like, not smooth. The side where the alternator belt is is smooth. Is this a issue to worry about or just normal wear? |

Re: Drive Clutch Question
I was wondering the same thing just today. I'll be following this thread to see what the experts say.

Re: Drive Clutch Question
It's getting time to consider a new clutch. The side that is rippled is aluminum and softer than the other side that is made of steel. The rippling will affect the way it shifts. I have seen them worn through to the ribs on the inside. It is normal wear and will have an effect on belt life as it gets worse.

Re: Drive Clutch Question
When u have a cart that is run with a worn belt for long periods of time this will happen. It's basically the same concept as your car, if you don't repair the small problem a bigger problem will be the result... meaning, keep the belt fresh and it won't screw up the clutch with heat and slippage.
The belt is cheap, the clutch is not. If the governor is set right and the clutches are in good shape, both will last years rather then months |

Yeah, not much power, especially at low end. Other carts are climbing hills carrying 2 people that I can barely climb with just me. I've been thinking it low engine power but I was lookingat the clutch and wondering if maybe that was at least a part of my prob, lem. |

Re: Drive Clutch Question
Thanks for this insite into basic maintance. In this case I did not put off replacing a belt to save money. THAT is how I bought the cart.

Re: Drive Clutch Question
Well that is what I was thinking, but just wanted to be sure before I bought a new clutch. Is it correct you cannot repair these parts, you must buy a whole new clutch?

Re: Drive Clutch Question
If you are considering buying a new clutch, why not try something to even it out by holding a file or dremmel/sandpaper etc. against it while the engine is spinning it at low to mid rpms. If you are about to trash it , it won't cost you any money to give it a try.
I have never done this before, but if I was in your position, that is what I would do. |

Re: Drive Clutch Question
As I really cannot afford a new clutch this is a great idea. Maybe some fine grit sandpaper on a sanding block. It sure cant hurt anything at this point.
