2pg carb question
Just rebuilt my 81 2pg. Runs pretty good, but I noticed fuel leaking from somewhere. Checked the lines/connections. They're good. So I'm assuming it's coming from the carb bowl. Took the kids for a spin tonight, ran it for about 15 minutes. Parked it, walked back out to the garage about 30 minutes later and noticed a 6" spot of gas on the concrete. Could this be the needle not seating?

Re: 2pg carb question
The float may need to be set.If its' not set correctly,it will flood-over.If you remove the bowl, the float should be parallel with the bowl-flange on the carb-body when the float is at its' highest point.Hope this helps.

Also, maybe the bowl isn't tight enough? Mine has an o-ring where the top of the bowl meets the carb and a paper gasket at the bottom bolt.

Re: 2pg carb question
Like Suffolklou I too have had a leak from the bowl ring and was able to cure it by nipping up the large nut on the bottom (but not too tight). I suspect that when the carburetors are assembled they are not tested for leaks. If it were the float valve I would expect to see fuel leaking from the breather on the top so check there first.
Also have a look underneath to make sure the leak is from the carburetor. Fuel leaking from the exhaust port is indicative of a damaged fuel pump. Dave |

Re: 2pg carb question
Thanks for all the help! I actually felt the underside of the bowl, and as soon as I touched the bolt on the bottom of it gas started seeping out. I am sure it's the ring. Before installing the carb, I took the bowl off to check the float etc.. Wondering if I overtightened it when I put it back together. In the event that I did overtighten it, and damaged the ring, can I just purchase a replacement from a hardware store? Or is it one of those discontinued ezgo jobs?

Re: 2pg carb question
So I tightened up the bowl, which solved the leaking. It was really loose. I now have another issue. Every 2 to 3 starts (with the seat off) it sputters badly and doesn't smooth out unless I mash it to the floor. Even then it still takes a second or two to smooth out. When it sputters, I get fuel coming out of the breather tube. Some starts are perfect though. Nice and smooth with no fuel in the tube. I took the bowl off and did my best to clean the float area. Sprayed it with a little carb cleaner, put it all back together. It started and ran great for the first 3 starts, then went right back to sputtering. Everything on the engine is new. Can't seem to get it running smoothly. Really aggravating!!

Re: 2pg carb question
Fuel from the breather tube indicates that the float / needle valve is not closing properly and causing the carburetor to flood. You are curing that by mashing the throttle which opens the butterfly wide and sucks the excess fuel into the engine. I would remove the carburetor (again, sorry) remove the bowl then the float and gently remove the needle valve, be careful it is easy to drop (don't ask). Clean the needle and clean the seat then reassemble. With the carburetor upside down the float should sit level.
Hopefully you will then be done and able to enjoy your cart. Dave |

Re: 2pg carb question
Thanks Dave. I'm wondering how this would have gotten dirty. New lines, filters, carb, pump, and a freshly cleaned tank. Hope this cures my problems, but I'm wondering if there is even more gunk (compliments of the manufacturers) still lurking in the system somewhere that is just waiting to gum up the works. Fuel is mixed 40:1 by the way.

Re: 2pg carb question
Mix the fuel 128:1(1oz./gal) or 100:1(1-1/2oz./gal) if you run it ungoverend, and are hard on it alot.Factory mix is 128:1.Hope this helps.
