I bought a 1986 ezgo it has a 244cc robin two stroke and cytrifical clutch I ran it for about a month when its fourward speed power and motor smoothness declined quickly from a semi crappy state so i changed fuel filters and it ran a little better for about two days and now it has no forward power speed and no reverse. The motor will turn over ellectrily but it won't catch so i cleaned the points and now it will run like crazy in reverse but all it does is miss sputter and backfire in forward. it gets juice to everything coil, spark plug, are all good it is getting fuel and everything. i am decent with small moters but this really baffles me so i will take any advice. thanks all who help

Timing?
A little more info, it runs in reverse not in foward? Back firing/sputtering sounds like timing. Did you mess with the point and regap them? |

I want to say that Ruredy was the one who had the answer on that problem but I am not sure. I will try to research the old posts and see if I can find it.

It sounds to me like the points are not on TDC and not set correctly.
