Golf cart stalls after going through mud hole.
My 1989 EZ-GO (3PG) runs absolutley perfect, untill I go through a mud hole, the cart makes it through just fine, then when I get to the other side it sputters and then dies. If I wait a few minutes and then try, it usually fires in REVERSE but will not fire in forward, a few more minutes and it will fire in forward and I can be on my way. This is very embarassing because my friend has a 1976 EZ-GO 3 wheeler and this never happens to him. Any ideas of how to fix this "problem." A friend to me that the box below my muffler may have be getting wet and causing this.
Also, what is the correct adjustment for the idle mixture screw? Thanks for the help. |

Re: Golf cart stalls after going through mud hole.
run the screw in then back out 1 and 1/4 turns that should get you close. sounds like you are getting water in the F/R switch or in the micro switch in the accel box.

Thanks, do you know what the black box is below the muffler? What should I do for the water in the F/R switch.

Re: Golf cart stalls after going through mud hole.
If it has the throttle cable going in it then it is where the microswitch for the accel pedal is located. Taking a wild guess... could be getting water in the microwitch? I have not run into that with mine before but I would imagine that it could cause the switch to ground out. I have washed out the engine compartment on mine before and not had any problems,.... take it out and try it again then look and see what all is getting wet. That may help you to id where the problem area is. I wouldnt think that the F/R switch would act up with a little moisture in it. The contacts are isolated and spaced away from one another. If you have ever ran the engine with the seat up and felt the air flow coming from around the head then it would seem feasible that water could be sucked into the flywheel area where the pulser coil is located causing some sort of interference. Maybe some of the resident pros could chime in here on this. In other threads folks have had timing issues which caused their carts to run in reverse and not forward. I'm only guessing but the water may cause this.

Re: Golf cart stalls after going through mud hole.
^ If I was getting water in the microswitch I don't think the engine wouldn't turn over. I agree with you about the pulser coil.
Thanks for your help. |
