Default Timing Belt on Robin Subaru

Robin Subaru EH29c question

In replacing a timing belt, going by the book it says to line up the keyway on the bottom shaft, which is the balancer shaft, if I recall correctly..and the top gear aligns its mark with the top of the shroud..

Ok, my bottom gear has a timing mark, and it is painted yellow.. I have no way of knowing where the belt was.. so this is strange.

Common sense would dictate to use the timing mark, but the book says to use the keyway..
Any comments or experience with this out there ?

Thanks..

Thanks for the reply.. Merry Christmas.
Yeah.. the balancer shaft is the one with the keyway.. and that was the right one. I got her started earlier today.

Sure looked weird, the gear clearly is marked otherwise, I bet other people have wondered.. LOL.

I used to be the *Head Mechanic* on a golf course, actually, two different ones. One I was the *assistant super* , but that entailed being the mechanic too. Had fun..and learned a lot...doesn't mean I want to spend my winter lapping reels though.. LOL.
