Default 83 cylinder head mill

Does anyone have any feedback on milling the head on a 244 Robins? I'ed like to bump up the compression as much as possible to get a bit more torque. Whats the minimum piston to head clearance counting the head gasket thickness.... .040 .050 ??

The most we ever cut them was .025". That give a nice power increase.

You would have to take measurements to find out how much more you can take. I have a 90 3pg with .025 cut, transfer ports polished and port dividers feather edged,bv21 carb with a cold air intake, torque spring from cpp in the secondary, and comet pink spring in the primary. I run only 93 octane or above fuel at 50:1 oil mix. This engine was done 5 yrs. ago and has many road miles at full throttle. It's been just as reliable as stock and no issues with exhaust plugging. I read an article about 10 yrs ago that ezgo set these up for 128:1 because they were meant to run short distances, they ran them lean to get them to warm up quick, but for heavy use and extended run periods to run 50:1. I can't locate the article anymore, so this info will drive everyone nuts, but these engines were not designed to run that lean for heavy duty use.

Mine was stock internally, but had a cold-air intake, govenor unhooked, clutches shimmed and 22"-tires.I ran it hard for 4-yrs on 100:1(1-1/2oz.)It still runs good,I Big-Blocked it,and threw the 2pg in the corner for a future project. My plug was always tan/brown,so all was good.

Thanks!! Great info! I'm going for it! I'm familiar with porting, so it'll get the full treatment when its apart! I'll post some pictures when I start I do 50:1 now and wouldn't go any leaner I beat it and a bit of extra oil wont hut.. I'v killed too many in the past to get greedy now

Well I ripped it apart today! The piston was new!! & in great shape! it had 120 before I started so we'll see where it lands when it's all done. Crank seals were spongy I have all the gaskets & seals coming anyways The head gasket measures .055 and it has Zero piston to deck, ,, the head has a .065 lip so I think that's gonna go I may leave .005 we'll see I'll post some more pix when I get it cleaned up and start the porting and head whack

Rvkersh? Question for ya... You say you have the pink spring in your comet clutch. What spring comes in it stock and how much stronger is pink than stock? Thanks in advance!
