what can replace the stock 87 marathon ezgo engine?

I have an 1987 Ezgo Marathon. I'm looking for a replacement engine. I've heard you can put a snowmobile engine in them, however I've also heard that some websites sell rebuilt engines. What about also putting something like a honda engine in it? Let me know your thoughts, this is not something i plan to do alone. I just want to know what to ask my garage to do to it!

Any suggestions or opinions would be appreciated.

You can pretty much put anything you want in it. It may take some modifications, but if you have the resources, the sky is the limit.

you wont have reverse unless you change out the whole rearend.
the 2 stroke motor is what runs backwards.
