99 EXGO converted to Gas - Should I Buy?
never owned a cart, looking for a decent start to a 4 seater for the family to tool around on. Found this, seems clean and a good start with potential. The guy put a 6.5 copy of a Honda GX160 & GX200 in there that is a pull start only. I would like to have something that i dont have to start by hand. i realize i can buy an electric starter kit for this for about 50-100 bucks online. but i would rather the type you used to see at golf courses that is electric to start the motor once you go 1 or 2 mph and then the gas motor turns on and it continues on gas until you stop. what is this called exactly and how much would it cost me to do that with this setup? is this a decent cart to buy for $950 or $850?

It looks to have new tires but 6.5 is small and i doubt it has reverse.
You should have a lot of carts near Lakeland. |

No reverse because it is still using the Dana differential from the electric setup. And, I'm not convinced it even has a clutch. Run away!

OK guys, i am "running away" lol. just sent a no thank you to the seller.
Next up... How much to turn one of these into a family 4 seater with rear facing seat? i am looking to get something that i could eventually put a nice gas motor in and have some fun with at some mud shows around town, but something that is cheap as well. i guess i should ask more straight forward questions. how much for a 4" or 6" lift (what is standard for these type of builds?) how much for new lift tires and rims? how much for an auto start setup for a gas motor? http://lakeland.craigslist.org/rvs/3684750491.html http://lakeland.craigslist.org/mcy/3633587099.html |

First off welcome to the world of golf carts. Now be careful because it is addictive. If you look at the top of your screen there are site sponsors that have all the prices. I have purchased two 94, stock gas models for less than a 1000 so I would imagine you should be able to find similar. Even if you find one that needs repair there are plenty of us to help you through it.

Since this would be your first cart, decide on gas or electric and then find one within your budget. Changing one into another CAN be done, but it's not easy or cost effective to do it CORRECTLY. If you want a gas cart, BUY a gas cart.

Re: 99 EXGO converted to Gas - Should I Buy?
essentially, i want something i can take out for a good 3-5 hours and not worry about the batteries dying. for this reason, i am probably going to go with gas. the problem is, i am not finding many out there. also, i know that the electric ones do not have that much power (general ones). i probably sound dumb on all of this, again i am new. i would rather buy a crap $300 one and have to put money into and do it the way i want it than buy one in good condition with good tires and shocks and all that and replace all of that with a lift kit and new tires. i am seeing 250-500 all over craigslist that need new batteries and some love.
with this said, i used to be involved in rc cars and know that the battery and motor is what makes these go fast and for how long. i assume it is the same concept. if i buy one that needs all new wires and batteries and probably an old motor, what would i be looking at for this price wise.. for something that i will enjoy and push the bigger tires with 3 people onboard? |

Re: 99 EXGO converted to Gas - Should I Buy?
Looks like we're shopping for the same carts. All the ones you've posted, I've been thinking about also. I'm moving to Thonotasassa/Plant City so i've been looking in Hillsborough, Polk, ect. I've been doing a lot of reading on here so i've taken the advice from more experienced guys and steered away from converting an electric to gas. I thought of doing the same thing you are talking about for the same reasons but now i'm thinking being new to carts, the frustrations may get the best of me while doing a conversion.

frustrations may get the best of me while doing a conversion.
And that would ruin what can be a great hobby. I know those cheap sparklers are tempting but for a long day in the woods gas is best. and now the rocks start flying. |
