EZGO problem
OK,here's a problem with my wifes' 96 TXT 4-stroke-hard to start, just spins and spins, backfiring thru the exhaust, finally catches and then runs great.I changed fuel filter, cleaned and soaked the carb, adjusted the valves,re-gaped the plugs, checked spark at the plug wires(hot and blue),checked fuel pump, and have been scratching my head trying to think of what else to look for. It's new gas, with no ethanol.
Any ideas guys,I've been hanging out on the site and usally can find a thread that answers my cart questions(I also have a1979 Yamaha G1),any help would be appreciated. |

Re: EZGO problem
did you pull out the idle circuit jet? did you remove the bowl from the carb body before soaking? is needle seating and the float properly adjusted? sound like to much fuel right away? could be a carb issue,

Re: EZGO problem
Yeah,I did Icy,bowl, screws, needle, everything I could get off and rinsed in water then blown dry and then placed near the wood stove to be sure everything was dry.Re-assembled,re-installed and still the same running condition.I did notice the plugs were sooted-up pretty badly.Compression shows 140+ on both cyl.Can sombody look the correct plugs up and gap?I don't have a manual.
Thanks, Pappy |

Re: EZGO problem
i seem to have the same problem and its a matter of getting to much gas im begining to think the idle jet o ring or seat may be shot these easy go carbs just have me on the ropes thinking about popping that plastic cap off and winding down on that needle valve a 1/2 turn and run it to see what it does

Re: EZGO problem
plug gap should be .30
is the fuel air ratio screw been messed with at all? I know when starting with a fresh built carb on the 295-350 we usally start with the screw turned all the way in....and the give it 1.5 turns out. thats where we start for tuning purposes. just something to keep in mind it could be the air fuel ratio is out of wack |

Re: EZGO problem
The carb had not been adusted at all when the problem started, now,I've taken every screw out and put back in when I soaked it.I really don't know what screw to which you are referring. As I mentioned earlier,I don't have a manual. Thanks for the info on the plug gap,do you know exactly which plug is supposed to be in it?
