Another new EZGO - ST350/MPT1200/Cushman Commander
Well after a brief foray into the Yamaha world, I found myself another EZGO to play with ... This time it's a 4-stroke so I'm likely going to need a little assistance (I'm an old-school Marathon 2-smoker guy). Here's the initial Dilemna, the cart is actually a 2004 Cushman Commander, although it's identical to the Workhorse/MPT (350 Robin Engine) - I'm picking the cart up tomorrow or Sat but would love to get a jump on ordering the lift parts, etc so anything anyone can share regarding anything that may actually *not* be the same as the ST350 / Workhorse 1200 would be a great help.
Here's a prelim pic, I have more I'll add in a bit: $T2eC16V,!yUE9s6NEl6!BRf!zdW,5g~~60_12[1].jpg The cab is evidently an 8-bold lift-off according to the PO, I'm going to pull it immediately and save it for the fall, or who knows I may try to find it a home ... I'm a little concerned regarding the lift though as I have a set of 23's that I'm hopefully donating to the project, I'm assuming from the research I've done that Jakes is the way to go and I should be fine with a 5", sound right? (I got a little excited and probably WAY overpaid on this one considering I didn't NEED another cart - $1100 - but I figure with the lift, whatever other fun stuff I add, etc I should cap out at way under $2k even considering the original cost of the rims and tires so I'm not *too* concerned at this point) Anyone have any interesting "Cushman Commander" pointers to share? WOO HOO - NEW CART !!!!!! |

Re: Another new EZGO - ST350/MPT1200/Cushman Commander
You need to look at what steering box this one uses to figure out the lift you need. It will probably use the normal one for a 2004 with the new steering but check anyway. Also, what rear brakes does it have ? Standard cable drums or hydraulic ?? If it is the standard cable the normal lift for the rear will work but you may have to flip the drums from right to left..
And for 1100, you did fine if it is running |

Re: Another new EZGO - ST350/MPT1200/Cushman Commander
So I'm guessing I'm going to play the "Patience Card" LOL and not get ahead of myself - thanks for the info. Looks in the interim like it'll be tomorrow before I get a chance to go grab it so once she's safely tucked in the garage I can start snapping more pics and get a better grip on the direction I'm going to take.
Compression is at 160 in both so I'm good there (had the PO do a test for me before I committed to the sale) - again, my main hope was that the lift was a stock item across the board so for now I guess I just figure out how to stay patient til tomorrow! Thanks again |

Re: Another new EZGO - ST350/MPT1200/Cushman Commander
I used the standard 4 inch lift with my 08 Workhorse with no real problems on 22in tires. Had to flip the rear brakes as they are mounted upside down I guess for clearance and it was either the 08 or the 99 I had to cut off some bump stops from the top of the axle so the blocks would rest. I do see that Jakes makes a 5 inch lift explicitly for the horse model 6216 01-08 years. I have not used one but is an option.

Re: Another new EZGO - ST350/MPT1200/Cushman Commander
Yeah, that Jakes kit is the one I'm looking at (I've had a good experience or two with their kits in the past so I trust them) ... I'm waiting for a callback from the PO as to the brakes and how many bolts are on the steering box so hopefully I'll have those answers tonight.
There's already quite a bit of clearance w the stock tires so I'm guessing this has a factory lift or ?? too, from what I've read though the absolute max for the factory lift is 22's (and being that I already have a really nice set of 23's it's easier to just spend the $275 on a new lift) ... Once I get into it though I'm sure there will be a surprise or two (for example the electric dump sometimes just clicks and doesn't engage so that's likely going to be a few bucks to straighten out, I'm sure once I pull the cab there'll be another trim expense or two to restore it to "cab-free" condition, etc) - all in all though I'm still feeling the price wasn't TOO bad, especially if I can get a few bucks back out of the hard cab, etc. DANG I wanna jump in the van, grab the trailer and GO, hahahahahahaha |

Re: Another new EZGO - ST350/MPT1200/Cushman Commander
Funny thing, Lou - it already HAS a factory heater in the cab, LOL ... And here in Wisconsin, we usually just run the sleds out to fish ...
ALRIGHT ... According to the EZGO website and serial lookup, the 4" lift was standard on my cart so I guess I have some tire decisions to make, I almost wouldn't mind picking up some new 22's and just hang onto the 23's for another project, I guess I'll see a lot more once I tear into things. The actuator for the dump bed is $740 (YEEEEOWCH) so I think I'll do my absolute best to troubleshoot whats there or prob just go manual til I find a used one ... I'm actually beginning to get a bit disappointed - what the HELL fun is a new cart if it doesn't need stuff done to it? |

Re: Another new EZGO - ST350/MPT1200/Cushman Commander
Most of the time the actuators are not rebuildable. There is a slipper type clutch in the base of them that is beyond repair. That is the clicking noise you hear. However if you can find a Bear Actuator dealer in your area you can replace it for around half of that price from ezgo.
