Electric to gas conversion
Ok here's the plan. I will be taking a 2004 EZ-GO MPT electric and adding the complete drive assembly out of a 1999 Workhorse into it. The steering on the MPT is busted so I will also be using the workhorse's steering and since I will be selling the front cowl of the MPT, I will be using the cowl of the workhorse as well. I'm also planning on adding a lift kit, new wheels/tires, recovering the seats and a simple paint job.
Hopefully I will be able to sell it fast and make a decent profit off of it to put towards my cart. Pics of the MPT: |

Re: Electric to gas conversion
Rib is correct on this, one is a 3 bolt steering setup and the other is a 4 bolt mounted to the axle. You will need to modify the front end to make it all work. They do sell rebuild kits for the that is broken. Good luck

Re: Electric to gas conversion
Thanks for the info. Are you guys referring to where the steering bolts to the front axle? If so I have the complete front clip of the 99 including the axle if that helps. But I was planning on ordering a Jakes 6" axle lift so I would just order it for a 99. If I'm missing something, sorry for my ignorance.

Re: Electric to gas conversion
Didn't get as much done as I would have liked to. Took a while for me to get the electronics out, at least when it came time to unhook it from the gas pedal. Then I started cutting the battery tray out with a cut off wheel on my air grinder but my compressor was constantly running. I was going to run and pick up an electric version but I remembered that I have my Sawzall at the other house so I will pick it up on Tuesday to finish getting the tray out.
While looking the cart over I found Bud Light bottles stashed so i'm wondering if some drunk carting is the reason the steering box was ripped from the tabs that bolt it to the front axle. Tomorrow I will start dropping the rear end out. I would have started on that today but it's our anniversary and I don't want push my luck to much by working on the cart all day. |

Re: Electric to gas conversion
I went to Tractor Supply, picked up a Dewalt 7amp angle grinder with a few cut off wheels and grinder wheels. So I could finish cutting the battery tray out. I almost picked up a Jobsmart 125 welder but it had a wire speed adjustment but no heat adjustment. Actually I came home and did some research and it seems most of the new ones only have wire speed adjustment unless you start looking at the ones over $500.
Anyway I got the battery tray out and the rear axle. So tomorrow I will take the gas set up out back, spray it with engine degreaser and pressure wash it. It had an oil leak, but J. Cribbs came over and found it was a missing bolt so I will plug it temporary and get to cleaning. I should have left the axle on the cart pulled it out and pressure washed it as well...may try strapping the rear to the atv jack and rolling it out the garage. |

Re: Electric to gas conversion
I hope so bud.
I took some degreaser and the pressure washer to the engine today. I actually got to see what the motor looks like. Turns out that the bolt in the head isn't missing, it's broken off. So i'm not sure how i'm going to go about getting it out other than taking it to a shop. |
