Can you hear the engine winding up but you're going no where? Or is the engine really struggling to keep you moving? Is it just on hills?

I had similar problems with my cart. Check the belt and make sure it has the proper amount of tension. Are the clutches opening and closing? How old is the belt? A worn clutch could be the cause, but tension is probably the main culprit. Jack up the rear of the cart so the wheels completely clear the ground and run the cart. Check to see if the clutches open and close. Make sure there are no oil leaks, oil on the belt or clutches could cause the belt to slip.

I have experimented with the belt tension on mine and found that when set to a tension only allowing about 1 1/2" of play provides the best results. My driven clutch (rear) came apart inside - broken spring, worn out ramp buttons, and worn cam. SO, I'm waiting on a new clutch to arrive. My cart is a project and the driven clutch was one of the last original parts left. My cart is a 96 workhorse that apparently never received any maintenance before I bought it.

Keep us posted on what you find to be the problem. Hope you find the solution quickly.

Yea, run it on jackstands and have a look at the clutches. As far as I know though you don't set any tension on the drive belt. You put it on and there it is.

On the secondary, or driven clutch it would cause your problem. It wouldn't be gripping the sides of the belt as hard, or at all and would definitely cause slipping. If that's your problem, you can replace just the spring, but I hear it's a real pain to open up the driven clutch and even worse getting it back together.

If it's the drive clutch, the one on the engine that's shot, you're out of luck and you'll have to buy a new one.

I have a big block kit on my cart and the belt is adjustable. Didn't think about carts with stock set-ups not having the options for tuning that big blocks have. On the big block engine cradle the engine can be moved forward and backward to adjust the tension on the belt.

Hope that answers your question Ruger.
